It's really been a long time coming. I've been revamping the Miss Kpop website for a long time now and just waiting for the best time to reopen and start blogging again. I've decided to start off completely fresh and hope to still reach many people! I plan on releasing my top 10 list every first Friday of the month, so look forward in the coming months. I went through all the releases of May 2020 and rated them to my personal taste! This is in no way a representation of everyone's opinions on these songs, just mine! Let me know in the comments what your top 10 songs of May were and if you agree with my opinions! I love discussion! Honorable Mentions13. Roy Kim - Linger On 12. CHEEZE - Today's Mood 11. NU'EST - I'm In Trouble
10. Raiden x Chanyeol (ft. Lee Hi & Changmo) - YoursOften every year I am a sucker for the spring sounding ballads that come out during this time. I have also enjoyed Raiden's collabs with SM in the past such as Yuri's "Always Find You". I think that Chanyeol and Lee Hi's voices go very well with each other. The music video is very aesthetically pleasing and makes you feel good. I enjoy listening to this song as I drive to work with the windows down. Makes me feel young and free! 9. DAY6 - ZombieI've been going through a lot of hardships lately which have been made worse due to COVID-19 and quarantine. Being an essential worker and feeling the stress that world is in right now (heightened by living in the United States), this song really makes me feel less alone in the struggle right now. I am thankful for JYP giving DAY6 a break and not forcing them to promote this album and allowing them the time to deal with their anxiety problems. This song means even more knowing it was written from the boys hearts. I feel like this is one of the most important releases of the year. 8. MINZY - LovelyIt is so good to see Minzy back after having issues with Music Works. This song sounds like a 2NE1 b-side track to me which makes me like it more than maybe other people would. Every time I hear a second generation voice it makes me so nostalgic and I fall immediately. I hope Minzy can keep promoting and making music that she and the fans can be proud of. She is still so young to have all this experience and talent. I can't wait to see what else she can do. 7. Agust D (Suga) - DaechwitaI have to admit, this isn't really my type of music, but what sells this song and comeback for me is the history used in the song and music video. Watching this music video I can't help but realize how BIG of a star BTS is in general and what I've been able to watch them do since debut in 2013. Suga is a creative genius in my opinion and was able to take Korean culture and mold it into a hip hop message. He really reminds me of G-Dragon in the MV with his confidence and the way he handles himself. I will always enjoy anything BTS and the members will put out. 6. CHUNG HA (ft. pH-1) - My FriendI feel like this song is not getting the attention it deserves. It gives me the same vibe as Chanyeol's "Yours", but I really enjoyed the concept and how Chungha and pH-1 sound together on the same track. In the past I have enjoyed when San E and Raina would collab back in 2014/15 and this reminds me of that as well. It only came out in the last days of May so maybe it will start to garner more attention soon. I just want to listen to this song driving down a dirt road by myself, that's the vibe. 5. NATTY - NineteenThis is one of my favorite debuts of the year. I will always have a soft spot for anyone that participated on Sixteen as I watched it as it aired and support all the girls from it. Natty has grown up so much since than and it's great to watch her come into her own and stand strong on her own as a soloist. She is an amazing dancer and an improved singer and I think she is a force to be reckon with in this industry. There is only up from here. I would also LOVE to see her collab with Somi, that would be awesome. 4. Moon Jong Up - HeadacheJongup was always the shy one in B.A.P and I honestly never truly appreciated his talents and definitely didn't think I would love his solo debut as much as I did. This song SLAPS, that's it. It's a certified bop. I've enjoyed Daehyun, Youngjae, and Yongguk's solos and I really loved Zelo's "She & Malibu" last month BUT this song seriously take the cake. The song, dance, and music are all... *muah* chef's kiss. I also seriously love how his love interest is a woman of color. Not every day you see that in kpop. Jongup has really grown into his own and I'm so proud at how much he has grown since debut in 2012 and love the man that he is today. 3. Crush (ft. Red Velvet's Joy) - MaydayWhat better song to represent quarantine life than this one? I haven't seen a kpop music video I have enjoyed and laughed so much through in awhile and this one did that for me. I have ALWAYS loved Crush and I'm so glad he joined P NATION and gets to make music that he loves and is proud of. This song and music video also give me like old YouTube vibes with Ryan Higa and Kevjumba. I love how Joy fits into this song and think it is a much watch for everyone. 2. IU (ft. BTS' Suga) - EightThis song was hyped up as soon as it was announced, yet I still came into it with an open mind and didn't let the idea of two super stars coming together to create a song blind my opinion. BUT, it didn't matter. This song is a masterpiece as everyone thought it would be. The amazing thing about this song is you can see it in many different lights. You can create your own meaning for this song. For me I enjoy thinking of it as her love letter to Jonghyun, Sulli, and Hara. Are you happy now? IU is an amazing artist and person and it's really a blessing to be alive during her time as an artist. This song deserves all the hype it is getting. It also won the spot (which I chose based on MV with most views by the 1st of the next month) to get the header on the home page of the Miss Kpop site, which I think says a lot about this comeback and song. 1. TXT - Can't You See MeI haven't heard a kpop song I have liked this much in a LONG time. There are just some songs that upon first listen I became obsessed with and have to play over and over on repeat. Songs such as Girls' Generation "I Got A Boy", SISTAR19's "Gone Not Around Any Longer", or in newer times, TWICE's "Fancy" and BTS' "Boy With Luv". I listened to this song probably thirty times in a row on the day of it's release. This song is soooooo good and the music video is just as amazing. The visuals and the way the boys sound when they sing, they are singing with true emotion. This song is just an overall masterpiece and honestly converted me into a true TXT fan.
